LA JOLLA, Calif. – Loyola Marymount women's water polo benefited from a strong third quarter to pull out a victory under the lights at the Canyonview Aquatics Center. The #T-13 Lions (4-5) doubled up #T-17 UC San Diego, 12-6, to win their lone game of the week.
 
Hana Vilanova opened the game with a goal a minute and a half into the action to put the Lions on the board. UCSD evened the score at the 4:17 mark of the first. Morgan Molloy scored her first of a game-high four goals to put LMU ahead, and after the Tritons evened it back up, scored her second of the period to give the Lions a 3-2 lead after one.
 
Molloy pushed the lead 4-2 with a goal early in the second half. After UC San Diego got one back, Molloy closed out the quarter with her fourth goal of the half to push LMU ahead, 5-3, at the break.
 
The Lions scored the first four goals coming out of the half, with Mollie Williams, Marialena Seletopoulou, Alena Sanchez, and Melyssa Moore adding to the LMU lead. After UCSD added their first of the third quarter, Katie Hungerford responded with her first to push the lead to 10-4 heading into the final eight minutes.
 
UCSD scored twice to open the period, but Seletopoulou and Hungerford cushioned the LMU advantage with their second goals of the day to secure the 12-6 victory.

Sky Flores recorded two saves and added a steal in her 32 minutes in goal.
 
LMU will be back in action next week for the UC Irvine Tournament on Feb. 22-24.
