LA JOLLA, Calif. – In a field that featured 13 ranked teams, the Loyola Marymount women's water polo team (3-5) placed eighth overall. LMU advanced to Sunday's winner's pool and then faced ranked Arizona State and UC Davis.
 
Game 1: #9 ASU 8, #13 LMU 6
 
LMU fell behind 3-0 in the first quarter, but outscored the Sun Devils the rest of the way out.
 
Mollie Williams and Morgan Molloy scored consecutive goals to open the second quarter and make it a one-score game. After ASU got one back, Marialena Seletopoulou answered with a goal of her own with 3:23 remaining in the half. Arizona State made it a 5-3 game at the break.
 
The Sun Devils scored the first three goals of the third quarter before Seletopoulou put an end to the run and make it a 14-8 score.
 
LMU scored both goals in the final quarter, and kept ASU off the board, but the comeback attempt could not be completed. Hana Vilanova scored her first of the day and Seletopoulou added her third goal with the clock ticking down the final minute of play.
 
Game 2: #11 UC Davis 11, #13 LMU 8
 
The Lions and Aggies matched up for their final game of the tournament. UC Davis jumped ahead early 3-0, and closed out the first quarter leading 4-1 with Hana Vilanova scoring for LMU.
 
Five of the first seven goals in the second quarter went to LMU, as the Lions tied the game at 6-6. Marialena Seletopoulou and Mollie Williams each scored twice, with Vilanova adding one as well. The Lions trailed 8-6 heading into the half.
 
After UC Davis opened the second half with a goal, Seletopoulou got one back in the final two minutes and Morgan Molloy scored with less than 10 second left in the period.

Despite it being a one-score game entering the final quarter, the Aggies scored both of the two goals of the fourth to take the game.
