LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Loyola Marymount men's basketball (16-6, 4-4 WCC) has evened its conference record following a two-game win streak, and now hits the road again for a showdown at BYU.
LMU did win the final meeting of the year between the two schools last season, a 76-69 Lions win on Feb. 1, 2018 in Hank's House, but have been unsuccessful at the Marriott Center over the last six games.
Interestingly enough, these two teams rank on opposite ends of the conference in scoring defense. LMU allows 62.7 points per game, which leads the WCC and ranks 14th in the NCAA, and is coming off a game that Head Coach
Mike Dunlap described as the "best defensive performance since I've been here" after the Lions allowed Pacific to score just 42 points, the fewest of any opponent this season and shoot just above the 30 percent mark.
BYU, on the other hand, allows 77.8 points per game, which is the most in the conference and 305th in the nation.
The key for LMU will be limiting Yoeli Childs. BYU's star player leads the conference with 12 doubles-doubles and is averaging nearly 22 points and 10 rebounds per game, both league highs.
If the Lions can keep him off the glass and corral some of those rebounds, that could be a difference maker. To date, LMU's rebound margin of +48 is fourth-best in the WCC.
The game will tip at 7 p.m. locally and 6 p.m. pacific. The game will air on BYUTV and stream on BYUtv.org.
