LOS ANGELES –
Eli Scott muscled his way to the rim with 13 minutes remaining in the game to pick up his 11
th point of the night, and more monumental, LMU's first-ever triple-double. Scott, who had 11 assists and nine rebounds in the first half finished with 21 points on 7-for-9 shooting, 13 rebounds, and 13 assists to do something no other Lion has done.
LMU never trailed and put together a complete effort on Saturday night to defeat Grambling State, 83-67.
The Lions benefited from an early 18-0 run to build the double-digit lead that held throughout the remainder of the game. Grambling State trailed, 6-5, before LMU rattled off 18-unanswered to take a 24-5 lead.
Scott took just two shots in the first half, but was one rebound shy of a double-double at the time, despite scoring just three points. In the second half, Scott shot 6-for-7 for three to score 18 points after intermission, including burying his only three-point attempt with 44 seconds remaining.
The entire team shot at a program-record 63.9 percent clip, after hitting 18-for-26 (69.2 percent) of the shots in the first half.
Seikou Sisoho Jawara earned his second career-high in as many home games with 13 points on a perfect 5-for-5 shooting night.
Ivan Alipiev also made five field goals for 12 points.
Erik Johansson hit three threes for nine points, and
Jordan Bell added eight points off the bench.
Three others in program history were one stat line off of the milestone. Hank Gathers posted 30 points, 14 rebounds, and nine assists against San Diego (Feb. 4, 1989), Terrell Lowery put together a 26 point, 10 assist, and nine rebound game at Georgia Tech (Dec. 22, 1990), and Lowery also had a 41 point, 10 rebound, and nine assist game against Gonzaga (Feb. 16, 1991).
Scott is the first WCC player with a triple-double since Kyle Collinsworth in 2014-15 & 2015-16. Doug Christie (PEP) and Kurt Rambis (SCU) each had one as well.
