LOS ANGELES – The Loyola Marymount University women's basketball team played a tight game against CSUN on Wednesday, but the Lions fell at the end, 56-54, while
Jasmine Jones had her third double-double of the season.
The Lions opened up the game against the Matadors in front of 1,670 people on Education Day. Several different elementary schools from around the area came to support the Lions.
LMU and CSUN got off to a slow start, as the game went scoreless for almost the first five minutes of the game.
Laura Vaida was the first to score with a jumper, but the Matadors responded with another jumper. The Lions were able to take a lead back, but CSUN responded. The teams left the first quarter tied at 8-8.
The teams battled for the lead for the first half of the second quarter, but the Lions broke away after two made free-throws from
Jasmine Jones. The Lions ended the half up 29-21.
The Lions took their first double-digit lead of the game in the third quarter after a jumper from CiCi Ellington, CSUN responded, but the Lions maintained the lead and left the third up 43-37.
CSUN responded in the fourth quarter and took the lead. The Lions responded and tied things back up, but CSUN closed out the game with a 56-54 win.
Jasmine Jones earned her first double-double of the season, as she had 13 points and 13 rebounds.
Chelsey Gipson scored her season high in assists with seven.
The Lions will be back on Saturday to take on Cal State San Bernardino in action.
