LOS ANGELES –The Loyola Marymount University women's basketball team put on a dominating performance Saturday afternoon, as the Lions beat Cal State San Bernardino 94-46 in Gersten Pavilion, while standout
Jasmine Jones earned her fourth double-double of the season and several Lions scored career highs.
Jones put the first points on the board for the Lions after she made a layup, the Coyotes battled the Lions, tying things up at 7-7, but LMU broke away and took the lead, which they held onto for the rest of the game. LMU ended the first quarter up 19-11.
The Lions opened the second quarter with their first double-digit lead of the game. CSUSB was able to cut its deficit down to eight, but the Lions respond, going on a 20-0 run, not allowing the Coyotes to score the rest of the quarter, leaving the half up 48-17.
LMU opened up the third quarter with a 7-0 run, and continued to extend their lead, closing out the third quarter on top of the Coyotes 73-38.
Brittney Reed opened up the fourth quarter with a layup, which started the Lions 7-0, giving the team a lead of 42 points. A layup by Jones in the fourth gave the junior her fourth double-double of the season. The Lions closed out the game with a 94-46 win.
Jones' 10 points and 14 rebounds earns her the No. 1 spot in the West Coast Conference in double-doubles. While Jones led in rebounds,
Meghan Mandel led the team in points with 16, a career high for the redshirt junior. CiCi Ellington put up 12 points, while Chelsey Gipsno had 12. Reed led the team in assists with six, which is the junior's career high.
Khari Clark scored her career high in blocks with four. Ellington and
Naomi Yim both led the team in steals with two a piece.
LMU had 41 points off of the bench and shot 53 percent from the field and 30 percent from behind the arch. The Lions had 64 total rebounds, compared to the Coyotes' 64. The Lions had eight blocks and eight steals, while CSUSB had one and five. LMU had 28 total assists, while the Coyotes had five.
Up next: The Lions will head to Albuquerque, NM to take on Ball State, New Mexico and Providence College starting on Wednesday December 18.
