LOS ANGELES - Similar to last season, the 1-0 Lions will make their road debuts in the Silver State. After defeating UNLV, 61-50, in the 2018-19 road opener, this year's LMU men's basketball team will have their first road challenge at University of Nevada on Saturday.
The Lions and Wolf Pack will play for the 45th time in program history, with LMU holding the 28-16 overall advantage, and a winning record on the road in the series.
Nevada is led by first year Head Coach Steve Alford, who came up short on opening night, falling 79-74 to Utah in his first game at Lawlor Events Center. LMU Head Coach Mike Dunlap and Alford most recently played one another a season ago when Dunlap led his 8-0 (at the time) Lions into Pauley Pavilion to face Alford's then-team UCLA.
Despite the loss to the Utes, in the last 45 games Nevada is 42-3 at Lawlor Events Center entering Saturday. The team boasted a perfect 15-0 mark at home in 2018-19 en route to an NCAA Tournament At-Large selection.
Following LMU's opening night 105-63 win at home, the Lions jumped into several national and conference rankings in the early days of the season. As a team, the Lions rank first in the NCAA at three point shooting percentage as a team at 66.7 percent (12-for-18). The 105.0 points per game lead the WCC and rank 15th in the NCAA in scoring offense. The Lions also lead the WCC with six blocked shots per game and total blocks with six.
Five different players scored in double figures for LMU, led by sophomore Ivan Alipiev's career-high 25 point outburst. In total, 11 of the 12 to play scored for LMU, leading to 63.5 percent shooting (40-for-63).
The game will air on AT&T Sportsnet with tip scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Live stats will be provided by Nevada.
