Late PK Goal Leads LMU To Double OT Draw in Final Home Match

LOS ANGELES – LMU women's soccer (4-11-3, 3-4-1 WCC) picked up their 10th conference point of the season after fighting to a 1-1 double overtime draw with Portland on Saturday night.

Following a scoreless first half, the Pilots scored in the 52nd minute to take the game's first lead off a counter attack cross from the right wing.

The Lions continued to applied pressure and ultimately were rewarded when Portland's defender was called for a hand ball in the box.

Maki Kono stepped up to the penalty spot and buried the equalizer in the 74th minute to level the score at 1-0.

Neither team could find the go-ahead goal and despite 20 combined shots in the first half, each team only scored the one goal apiece.

The Pilots took one shot in the first overtime period, but Sadie Kenny made one of her game-high six saves to keep the ball out of the back of the net in the final minute of the session.

All three shots in the second overtime period were taken by the Lions, with the best opportunity coming from Phoebe Riley whose shot from outside the box was punched over by the UP keeper for a corner.

Portland took 16 corner kicks in the game, compared to five from LMU.

The Lions will close out the season with their toughest challenge to date. LMU plays at BYU on Saturday evening. The Cougars (17-0-1, 7-0-1 WCC) are perfect at home this and hold the number four national ranking.
