LOS ANGELES - Home from the international trip that brought LMU men's basketball to the island of Bimini in the Bahamas, the Lions are back at Gersten Pavilion and ready to play in front of the home crowd. LMU hosts Southern Utah (4-3) for the third time in program history this Sunday at 1 p.m.
The Lions, who have not played since the end of the tournament last Sunday, have adjusted back to the pacific time zone and are looking to snap their two-game skid for the second time this season.
The Thunderbirds are coming off a record-breaking home win on Friday. Southern Utah won by a school-record 86 points over West Coast Baptist after burying a record 17 made threes. While SUU is undefeated at home and on neutral courts, the team has a 1-3 record on the road.
Southern Utah ranks sixth nationally in defensive rebounds per game at 33.14, and have a top-25 team shooting percentage at 49.6 percent. The combination of cleaning the defensive glass and making nearly half their attempted shots, puts the Thunderbirds at an 11.3 rebound margin, which ranks ninth in Division I this season.
Similarly, LMU also shoots a high percentage from the field and is one of 19 teams in the country shooting above 50 percent on the season. At 50.9 percent from the field, the Lions rank 13th in the NCAA.
The Lions also lead the WCC with only 72 turnovers committed this season.
This is Southern Utah's second trip to Los Angeles this season. The Thunderbirds lost at UCLA on Nov. 18.
A live stream of the game will be available through the WCC Network, with live stats available online at Statbroadcast as well. All LMU men's basketball games can be heard live on KXLU 88.9 FM and TuneIN Radio. Tip is scheduled for 1 p.m.
