LOS ANGELES – The Loyola Marymount University women's basketball team (2-5) put up a fight against Georgetown in the LMU Thanksgiving Classic on Friday, but the team fell to the Hoyas  64-53.

The Lions opened up the first quarter with a 7-0 run, which was started with two made free-throws from Raychel Stanley. LMU maintained its lead for the remainder of the quarter, heading into the second up 17-14.
 
Georgetown took the lead after making a layup, but a three-point shot from Chelsey Gipson gave the Lions the lead back. The teams were neck and neck for the rest of the half until the Hoyas went on a 5-0 run to leave the half on top of the Lions at 29-24. 
 
LMU opened up the third quarter with a 7-2 run to tie things up at 31-31, but the Hoyas responded with a 13-2 run to take their first double-digit lead of the game. The Lions left the third quarter down 47-39. 
 
Gipson opened up the fourth quarter with a three-point shot to trail the Hoyas by only five points, the Lions battled the rest of the quarter, but they weren't able to tie things up, closing out the game down 64-53. 
 
Stanley led the Lions in points and rebounds with 13 and six, respectively, while Jasmine Jones had 11 points and six rebounds. CiCi Ellington led the team in assists with four. 
 
The Lions shot 36 percent from the field, while the Hoyas shot 37 percent. LMU shot 35 percent from behind the arch and 64 percent from the free-throw line, while Georgetown shot 51 and 58. The Lions had 38 total rebounds, two blocks and five steals. 
 
Up next: The Lions will conclude the LMU Thanksgiving classic on Saturday, as the team will take on Yale University at 3:30. Yale beat Fresno State in Friday's match-up 87-67.
