Lions Fall in Tulsa, Jones Earns Double-Double

TULSA, Okla., -- The Loyola Marymount University women's basketball team (2-4) fell on the road to Tulsa 75-56 on Monday afternoon, while Jasmine Jones picked up a double-double. 
 
 Jones opened up the first quarter with a layup, but Tulsa responded and took the lead. Chelsey Gipson scored nine points in the first quarter, all coming from three-point jumpers. The Lions closed out the first quarter down 15-13. 
 
Aspyn Adams scored first for the Lions in the second quarter, as she hit a three-point shot. The Lions came within two points of Tulsa, but LMU trailed the rest of the half. 
 
Down 29-24 to open up the third quarter, Raychel Stanley opened up the second half with two free-throws, to make it a one possession game. The Hurricane responded and took their first double-digit lead of the game and closed out the third quarter on top of the Lions 54-39. 
 
Although the Lions battled in the fourth quarter, Jones put on a dominating performance, as she had 12 points in the fourth and four rebounds, which gave her a total of 17 points and 12 rebounds, the junior's second double-double of the season. Tulsa closed out the game with a 75-56 win. 
 
Jones led the Lions in points and rebounds, while Gipson had 15 points, and Stanley had 10 points and six rebounds and Khari Clark had six rebounds. Jones and Clark both led the Lions in steals with two a piece. 
 
Gipson made four of the Lions' six three-point shots, while Adams made the other two. Naomi Yim led in assists with five. 
 
The Lions shot 32 percent from the field, 53 percent from the line and 30 percent from behind the arch. LMU outrebounded Tulsa 48-42.
 
Up next: After closing out three straight games on the road, the Lions will be back home to host Georgetown and Yale in the Thanksgiving classic.
