LONG BEACH, Calif., -- The Loyola Marymount University women's basketball team had a second half comeback against Long Beach State University, as the team beat the 49ers 70-57.

Chelsey Gipson put the first point on the board for the Lions, but Long Beach State quickly responded, going on 6-0 run to take the lead. The Lions took the lead back after back to back three-pointers, the first one from Gipson and the second from
Naomi Yim. Tied at 13-13, LBSU went on a 6-1 to close out the first quarter on top of the Lions 19-14.
The 49ers kept their momentum going, adding five points to open the second quarter. CiCi Ellington responded, making her third three-pointer out of three attempts. The Lions battled through the rest of the second, trailing by only two points at the half, down 29-27.
Raychel Stanley tied things up to open the third quarter after making a jumper. LBSU took the lead back, but then Stanley tied things up again after making two free-throws. LMU took the lead after a three-point jumper from
Aspyn Adams, which was the start of the Lions' 7-1 run that put the team on top leaving the third.
Up 48-41, the Lions allowed the 49ers to come within two points in the fourth quarter, but never let LBSU tie or take the lead. LMU took its first double-digit lead of the game after another three-point jumper from Adams. The Lions then went ono their biggest scoring run of the night, a 9-0 run, which eventually lead to a 16-point lead, the largest lead of the game. LMU closed out the game with a 70-57 win over LBSU.
Stanley led the team in points with 19, while Gipson and Ellington both had 14 a piece.
Khari Clark led the team in rebounds with 12 and had two blocks, while Ellington and Stanley both had seven rebounds. Gipson, Ellington and Adams all made three-three-pointers Ellington and Gipson both lead in assists with four a piece.
"Chelsey, Aspyn, CiCi and Naomi were knocking down shots and Khari was a rebounding machine. I really like the energy and enthusiasm that this entire team showed tonight!"
LMU shot 49 percent from the field, compared to LBSU's 35 percent. The Lions made 11 total three-pointers and went 52 percent from behind the arch, while the 49ers only made two, giving them 15 percent. LMU had 45 total rebounds and 25 turnovers, while LBSU had 25 and 10.
Up next: The Lions will take their first road trip out of the state to take on Tulsa on Monday.
