BIMINI, Bahamas - With a shot at the tournament title still up in the air, LMU men's basketball (2-3) is poised to play undefeated Duquesne (5-0) on Sunday night. The two teams have been slotted into the second game on Sunday, in what could play out into the Junkanoo Jam Championship game.
Within the tournament field, Duquesne is the lone team with two wins while in Bimini. Both LMU and Indiana State are 1-1, and Air Force has been beaten twice. Depending on the results of the first game, LMU could be either one of two or three teams with a 2-1 record following the field's final game Sunday.
Duquesne has won games with top-5 nationally-ranked three-point shooting defense. The Dukes (5-0) allow their opponents to shoot 22.2 percent from long range. In total, Duquesne allows opponents to score just 58.6 points per game, which is the 31st lowest in Division I.
Their defensive style contrasts LMU's early-season ability to shoot. The Lions rank 13th in the NCAA in field goal shooting percentage as a team at 52.4 percent.
Eli Scott recorded his eighth career double-double on Friday night. The junior is one of 23 Lions to record eight or more double-doubles in their LMU career. In the Junkanoo Jam, Scott is averaging 13.5 points per game, 8.5 rebounds per games, and 6.0 assists per game, while shooting 66.7 percent (10-for-15) from the field. Scott broke the tournament record with nine assists in the first game of the tournament to help lead LMU to a win over Air Force.
This will only be the third meeting all-time between the two programs, and first since 1955.
A live stream of the game will be available through the FloHoops, with live stats available online as well. All LMU men's basketball games can be heard live on KXLU 88.9 FM and TuneIN Radio. Tip is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. local time (3:30 p.m. PST), but will be determined based on finish time of Indiana State versus Air Force.
