SPOKANE, Wash. – The Loyola Marymount University volleyball (13-11, 7-5 WCC) team split on this weekend's set of matches, as the team fell to Gonzaga 3-1 on the road on Saturday afternoon.
LMU vs. Gonzaga – 25-19, 20-25, 25-15, 27-25
Gonzaga battled the Lions through the first set, as the Bulldogs went on a 5-1 run to open up the first set. The Lions were able to tie things up at 7-7 and then take the lead, but the Bulldogs came back at 13-13 and then took the lead, winning the set 25-19.
Down 1-0, LMU responded in the second set, as the Lions held onto the lead for most of the set. LMU went on a 5-1 run to get a comfortable lead against the Bulldogs. The Lions came out with the 25-20 win in set two.
Tied at 1-1, the Lions lost momentum, as they were only able to tie things up early on, and then Gonzaga went on several runs to come out with a 25-15 lead.
LMU gained momentum in the fourth set, as the team went on a 10-1 run to tie things up at 23-23. The Lions battled, but Gonzaga took set four 27-25, winning its first conference match of the season.
Savannah Slattery lead the team in kills with 20, while
Tess Reid lead in assists with 42.
Emma Johnson led the team in total blocks with four, while Reid had three.
Ella Boehle led in digs with 17.
The Lions had 52 total kills and 48 assists, while Gonzaga had 59 and 50. LMU had seven total blocks, compared to Gonzaga's eight.
