Lions Fall to UCI on the Road

LOS ANGELES – The Loyola Marymount University women's basketball team (1-3) fell on the road to UC Irvine 80-65, while Raychel Stanley had a double-double. 
 
Ciera Ellington put the first four points on the board for the Lions, as the freshman opened up the quarter with two layups. UCI responded and tied things up and then took the lead. The Lions closed out the first quarter down 17-12. 
 
The Lions picked things back up in the second quarter, as the Lions went on a 5-0 run to tie things back up. The teams tied things up four times in the second quarter, but then UCI went on a 9-0 run to take the lead. LMU closed out the half down 32-25. 
 
Ellington opened up the third quarter with five points, while Stanley put the next four points on the board. The Lions came within three points of the Anteaters, but weren't able to tie things up and ended up closing out the third quarter down 54-48. 
 
LMU struggled through the fourth quarter, as UCI held onto a double-digit lead for most of the remainder of the game. Stanley pulled her 10threbound in the fourth, earning a double-double. The Anteaters won the game 80-65. 
 
Ellington led the team in points with 18, while having six assists. Stanley put up 12 points and 11 rebounds, earning her first double-double of the season.   Jasmine Jones, Laura Vaida and Gipson all also had six rebounds a piece. 
 
The Lions shot 34.5 percent from the field and 25 percent from behind the arch, while shooting 75 percent from the line. LMU had 45 rebounds and five blocks, compared to Irvine's 30 and four. The Lions also had eight steals, while the Anteaters had seven. 
 
Up next: The Lions will head down to Long Beach State on Saturday for a 4:00 PM game.
