LOS ANGELES – The Loyola Marymount University women's basketball team (1-2) put up a dominating three quarters against Cal State Fullerton with a tight fourth quarter, forcing the game into overtime. The Lions battled until the end, but fell 79-74, while
Chelsey Gipson had 20 points.

The Lions set the tone in the first quarter, as Gipson quickly put up the first two points to open the game. The Titans responded with a basket and tied things up, the only tie of the quarter. CiCi Ellington made a layup to take the lead back. Ellington continued her momentum, as she had nine points in the first quarter. The Lions closed out the quarter up 23-13.Â

Trailing by double-digits, Fullerton opened up the second quarter with a jumper, but
Meghan Mandel responded with a layup. The Lions took a 12-point lead, their biggest lead of the half after
Jasmine Jones made a layup. The Titans went on a 7-2 run, but still trailed the Lions by seven. The Lions then extended their lead and ended the half on top, 39-29.Â

The Lions continued their momentum in the second half, as
Raychel Stanley opened up the half with a jumper. CSUF went on an 8-0 run to make it a five-point game, but the Lions responded with a 12-2 run, ending the third quarter up 56-44.Â

The Titans responded in the fourth quarter, as the Titans were able to come within one possession in the last three minutes, and then tied things up with 18 seconds left, forcing an overtime.Â

Fullerton gained momentum in overtime, as the Titans took the lead and held onto it for the remainder of the game, winning the game 79-74.Â

Gipson led the Lions in points with 20, while having three assists and two steals.
Jasmine Jones had 18 points, four rebounds and three assists, while CiCi Ellington had and
Raychel Stanley both had nine points. Stanley, Belvin and
Brittney Reed all led in rebounds with seven.Â

The Lions shot 41 percent from the field, while the Titans shot 40. LMU shot 41 percent from behind the arch, compared to the Titans 32. The Lions had 15 total assists, four blocks and 44 total rebounds.Â
