LOS ANGELES – The Loyola Marymount University women's basketball team had a stellar home-opener, as the Lions picked up an impressive 65-51 win over the University of Hawai'i, while
Jasmine Jones had a double-double.

Chelsey Gipson put the Lions on the board right away, as she made a basket off of a Hawai'i turnover. The Rainbow Warriors took the lead after a three point jumper, but Gipson put the Lions back on top after making another basket. The Lions went on a 7-1 run, and then took their biggest lead of the first quarter, heading into the second up 17-10.
Naomi Yim helped the Lions maintain momentum, as she made the first basket of the second quarter. Hawai'i went on a 12-4 run to tie things up with the Lions, closing out the half 27-27.
Cierra Belvin responded in the third quarter, putting the first points of the second half on the board. The Lions and the Rainbow Warriors were neck and neck the rest of the quarter, as the teams tied things up four times until the Lions broke away and ended the third up 45-42.
Hawai'i made the first basket of the fourth quarter, but LMU never gave up the lead. LMU went on a 15-2 run, to take its first double-digit lead of the game. The Lions closed out the game with a 65-51 win over Hawai'i.
CiCi Ellington led the Lions in points with 13, while
Jasmine Jones had 12 and
Raychel Stanley had 10. With 12 points, Jones picked up a double-double, as she had 11 rebounds, while Stanley had seven. Gipson led the team in assists with three, while Belvin led in steals with five.
The Lions shot 38 percent from the field and 57 percent from the line, while Hawai'i shot 31 percent from the fields and 67 percent from the line. The Rainbow Warriors had 18 turnovers, while LMU had eight. The Lions had 10 total assists and 43 total rebounds, while Hawai'i had nine and 39.
The teams tied things up five times, while there were eight lead changes.
Up next: The Lions will be back home in Gersten Pavilion this Friday to host Cal State Fullerton.
