SAN FRANCISCO – A second half penalty kick was the difference on Wednesday night to keep the Lions (3-7-2, 2-0-0 WCC) unbeaten in conference play with two wins over their first two games.
Amber McCorkle converted the PK in the 56
thminute for the game's only goal to beat University of San Francisco (8-4-1, 1-1-0 WCC) on the road.
In the closing seconds of the first half, LMU earned their first penalty kick with a chance to take a lead into the break.
Sydney Schultz hit her corner location, but San Francisco's Olivia Camera made the save to preserve the first half shutout.
When the Lions had another opportunity from the spot, they would convert the second time around. McCorkle's goal was her second game-winner in as many games, following her finish LMU's 3-1 win over Pacific last weekend.
Sadie Kenny recorded her second shutout in the last three games, and matched her career high with five saves.
Despite being outshot 10-8, the Lions earned more corner kicks than the Dons, 4-2.
The Lions host Pepperdine this Sunday at Sullivan Field. The 2019 rendition of the PCH Cup will kick off at 1 p.m.
