No. 22 Lions Rally Falls Short

The No. 22 Loyola Marymount University Lions men's soccer team (5-3-3) put together a late game rally but couldn't get the equalizing goal and fell to Western Michigan 1-0.

LMU traveled outside the state of California, for the first and only time this season, to Kalamazoo, Michigan for the programs first game against the Broncos in men's soccer history.

LMU's Gaetan Roux put the Lions first shot up in the fifth minute but had his ball blocked by the Broncos turning away their first opportunity.

The Broncos broke through in the early goings of the first half as they got a ball to go in the back of the net in the 16th minute getting it past LMU goalkeeper Alfredo Cortez, who drew the Sunday start.

With the Lions trailing by one they were able to muster two shots for the first half and headed into the locker room looking for the equalizer.

The Lions put together three shots in the second half, all on goal, but couldn't get any of them to find the back of the net. LMU also put together two corners but didn't score on those opportunities either. For the game LMU had five shots, with three on goal and two corners.

The Lions will now return to Sullivan Field and open a three-game home stand in addition to beginning West Coast Conference play on Saturday, Oct. 12 against Gonzaga at 7:00 p.m. followed by their last nonconference matchup of the year against Marshall on Tuesday, Oct. 15 at 7:00 p.m. and wrap up versus WCC foe Portland on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 7:00 p.m.
