The Loyola Marymount University Lions men's soccer team (6-3-3, 1-0-0 WCC) needed less than three minutes of the first overtime session to lock up their first victory in West Coast Conference play, courtesy of a
Dylan Shockey goal propelling LMU to the 1-0 result over Gonzaga at Sullivan Field.
Â
LMU's goalkeeper
Jacob Jackson notched his seventh shutout of the season, facing six shots in the game with one on goal.
Francis Avoce led the Lions with four shots, one on goal, while Shockey was the difference maker in goals scored with his 93
rd minute game-winner.Â
Â
The Lions defense was stellar throughout the night again for head coach
Paul Krumpe, only allowing the Bulldogs six total shots with one on goal and not allowing Gonzaga a corner kick the entire game.Â
Â
With both team scoreless after the first 45 minutes of play the Lions came out of the gate in the second half and kept pressure on the Bulldogs putting together 10 shots, with two on goal, but couldn't get anything past Gonzaga's goalie.Â
Â
The Lions, playing in their fourth overtime game in the last five matches, didn't waste any time getting the game-winner in the 93
rd minute. Shockey sent in the game-winner off assists from
Brandon Sanchez and
Duhaney Williams providing the only goal of the game and the only scoring the Lions would need for the victory.
Â
Up next for the Lions in their second longest home stand of the season is a final nonconference matchup of the year against Marshall on Tuesday, Oct. 15 at 7:00 p.m. The Lions follow that up with a conference game versus Portland on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 7:00 p.m.Â
