PORTLAND, ORE. – The Loyola Marymount University volleyball team (13-10, 7-4 WCC) picked up a 3-1 road win over Portland Thursday night in Portland, Ore, giving them a season sweep over the Pilots.

The Lions opened up set one with a service ace by
Tess Reid and then put another point on the board from an attack error by the Pilots. Despite the strong open, the Lions struggled through set one, as the Pilots responded and took the lead. The Lions tied things back up at 4-4, and the Portland went on a 10-1 run, and LMU was not able to tie things back up, giving Portland the set win.
Down 1-0, the Lions quickly responded in the second set, as
Emma Johnson opened up the second set with a kill, the Pilots responded, but LMU only allowed two lead changes and five tie scores. The Lions went on an 11-2 run and took set two 25-16
Tied at 1-1, LMU went into the tightest set of the match, as set three had 14 tie scores and three lead changes. Portland tied things up at 25-25, and then at 26-26, two kills from
Savannah Slattery gave the Lions the set win at 28-26.
Up 2-1, the Lions continued their momentum in the fourth set, as LMU went on a 7-1 run to open the set. The Pilots were able to tie things up four times, and even took the lead, but the Lions quickly responded and took it back. Slattery again had the last two kills of the set, giving the Lions the set win to win the match.
Slattery led the Lions in kills with 25, while
Piper Manross had 16.
Tess Reid put up 53 assists.
Ella Boehle and Slattery both led the Lions in digs with 14 a piece, while
Ella Knowlton led the team in blocks with seven.
The Lions put up 147 total attacks and 60 kills, while the Pilots had 139 50. LMU put up a .272 hitting percentage compared to Portland's .201. The Lions had 10 blocks while Portland had eight.
