LOS ANGELES – Following their pregame recognition, it was a pair of seniors who scored for LMU on Saturday night. The Lions (4-10-2, 3-3-0 WCC) blanked Saint Mary's (7-8-1, 1-4-1 WCC), 2-0, behind goals from
Jackie Fiacco and
Ali King.
LMU scored in the game's opening six minutes as Fiacco forced her way towards goal and kept at it after her first shot was blocked to shoot again and score the game's first goal.
The Lions held that lead for much of the game before fellow senior
Ali King provided the insurance goal for LMU off a counter attack started by
Simone Handy.
The 2-0 shutout was LMU's second clean sheet of conference play and third of the season.
Sadie Kenny made five saves in goal, and defended eight SMC corner kicks, to preserve the shutout.
The Lions outshot the Gaels 14-11, after starting the first half with 10 shots.
Prior to the game, LMU's nine seniors were recognized for their contributions to the programs over their time as Lions.
Gabbie Sanfilippo,
Jackie Fiacco,
Lee Erickson,
Kallie Kampfl,
Ali King,
Phoebe Riley,
Britty Walley,
Chloe Colbert, and
Annie Flora comprise this year's graduating class.
Only one game is scheduled for the upcoming week as LMU travels to Santa Clara on Saturday afternoon to face the conference-unbeaten Broncos.
