STOCKTON, Calif., – The Loyola Marymount University volleyball team (21-8, 6-2 WCC) push University of the Pacific to five sets on Saturday afternoon, coming out with a win and coming back to Los Angeles with a road sweep.
LMU vs. Pacific 25-17, 25-23, 17-25, 25-27, 15-12
The Lions opened up the first two sets on a strong note, as LMU took control of set one early on, after a kill from
Savannah Slattery. There were only two tie scores and two lead changes. A kill by
Megan Rice made the score 3-2, and the Lions maintained the lead for the rest of the set, coming out with a 25-17 win.
The Lions had a tight second set, as there were 10 tie scores and five lead changes. Rice had the first two kills of the set, leading LMU to win the second set 25-23.
Up 2-0, the Tigers responded in the third set, as they did not allow the Lions to take the lead or tie things up. Pacific took set three 25-17.
The Lions battled for the match in set four, but the Tigers maintained their momentum from set three. A kill from
Emma Johnson put the Lions on the board first, and then Pacific responded and then held onto the lead for the rest of the set.
Tied at 2-2, Pacific forced a fifth set, where the Lions went on a 4-1 run to open the set. The Tigers tied things up four times, but LMU held onto the lead and won the set 15-12, giving the Lions the match win.
Slattery and Rice led the team in kills with 14 a piece, while
Piper Manross had 13.
Tess Reid had 46 of the Lions' 50 assists, while
Emmelyn Walters have five block assists and one solo block and
Bo Culo led the team in digs with 22.
The Lions had 12 total blocks compared the Pacific's 11, while the Lions had 56 total kills.
Up next: The Lions will be back in Gersten Pavilion on Thursday to BYU at 7:00 PM and will be back on the courts on Saturday to host San Diego.
