Lions Drop Final Non-Conference Match Against Marshall

The Loyola Marymount University Lions men's soccer team (6-4-3, 1-0-0 WCC) dropped a 4-1 decision in their last nonconference game of the season against the No. 21 Marshall Thundering Herd at Sullivan Field on Tuesday night.

The Lions wrapped up the nonconference schedule with five wins, coming within one game of matching their nonconference win total of six from the 2016 season.

The setback is only their second of the season at Sullivan and the last time LMU dropped a home game they reeled off five wins in their next six contests. Head Coach Paul Krumpe will look for the Lions to bounce back against WCC foe Portland in their second conference game of the season on Saturday night.

LMU found themselves trailing at the end of the first half 3-0 but in the second half, the Lions came out on the attack and tallied five shots before Marshall had its first of the half in the 62nd minute. The Lions got on the board taking advantage of a penalty kick opportunity in the 64th minute by senior Gaetan Roux. With the Herd lead cut to two, 3-1, the Lions continued to try and fight for the comeback.

The Lions continued their fight throughout the second half, putting up 12 shots compared to the Herds four but couldn't get any more shots past Marshalls goalkeeper. For the game LMU outshot Marshall 14-11 and posted one more corner at 5-4.

The Lions will look to get back in the win column when they close out their second longest home stand of the season on Saturday, Oct. 19 when Portland pays a visit to Sullivan with kickoff set for 7:00 p.m.
