PROVO, Ut. – The Loyola Marymount volleyball team (8-7, 2-1 WCC) put up a fight against No. 9 Brigham Young University, but after pushing the Cougars to five sets, the Lions fell 3-2 in Provo, UT.

The Lions got off to a slow start, as the Cougars took the first two sets. The Lions were able to tie things up three times in the first set, but were not able to take the lead, while
Megan Rice put the first two points on the board for the Lions. LMU finished the first set 25-22.Â

Savannah Slattery opened up set two with a kill, but the Cougars quickly responded and tied things up, and then took the lead. The teams tied up the score seven times, but BYU won the second set 25-20.Â

Down 2-0, the Lions responded, taking an early two-point lead. The Lions then went on a 5-1 run, and it wasn't until 19-19 the Cougars were able to tie things back up. The Lions continued their momentum and won the set 25-21 after a bad set from BYU.Â

Emmelyn Walters opened up the set with two kills. The Cougars responded, as there were six tie scores and four lead changes. With things tied up at 21-21, the Lions went on a 4-1 run to take the set, getting the 25 point after a kill from
Megan Rice. LMU won the set 25-22.Â

Tied at 2-2, the Lions battled for the win in the fifth set.
Jessie Prichard opened up the set with a kill, but the Cougars quickly responded. BYU then went on a 9-1 run to win the fifth set 15-7, winning the match. Â

Rose Booth led the team in kills with 18, while Rice had nine. Prichard had 55 of the Lions' 59 assists.
Bo Culo led the Lions in digs with 12, while Prichard had 11.Â

The Lions tied the Cougars in total blocks, with 13 a piece, while the Lions also outscored the Cougars in kills and digs, 63-59 and 47-43, respectively.Â
