Box Score 1 FORT WORTH, TX.,—The Loyola Marymount men's tennis team put up a fight on its first road trip of the season on Saturday, but fell to No. 1 seeded TCU.
"We put ourselves in position for the doubles point today, but the ball bounced in TCU's favor at the big moment," said head coach
Tom Lloyd. "We came out and played five great first sets in singles, and then just didn't want it bad enough in the second sets.
I really liked what I saw in doubles from Nava and Borchenko today and look for them to set the tone moving forward."
The Lions came out strong in doubles play, as
Nick Borchenko and
Diego Nava picked up a win against Bertus Kruger and Reese Stalder on court two 6-3.
Lukas Moenter and
Lucas Moreno were defeated by Alex Rybakov and Alastair Gray, 6-2 on court one.
With things tied up, the Lions lost the doubles point, as
Thien Nguyen and
Ethan Prost lost to Luc Fomba and Sander Jong 6-4 on court three, giving TCU the doubles point.
Down 1-0 in singles play, Stalder defeated Nava 6-0, 6-2 on court three, while Fomba defeated
Max Kaiser on court five 6-4, 6-2.
No. 65 Bertus Kruger took on Moreno on court four, where he won 7-5, 6-1, clinching the match for TCU.
The Lions were set to take on Arizona State University on Sunday, but due to illnesses, LMU unfortunately had to forfeit.
"This is very unfortunate and something that we cannot control," said Lloyd. "We will look to bounce from this as we move further into our season".
