STOCKTON, Calif., -- The Loyola Marymount women's basketball team put on a dominating performance against Pacific on Thursday, coming out with a 72-67 win and snapping the Tigers' (12-6, 5-3) three-game winning streak.
The Lions'(11-9, 4-4) win came with another career high from
Bree Alford, as the senior put up 20 rebounds, topping last week's 18 against Pepperdine.
Chelsey Gipson and
Jasmine Jones led the team in points, with 28 and 17, respectively.
"Tremendous team win today in a very challenging environment," said head coach
Charity Elliott. "We played the epitome of team basketball at both ends of the floor.
Chelsey Gipson got us going in the first half and 20 rebounds by Bree is just ridiculous! I am also really proud of Andee's leadership and talk today."
Gipson set the tone during the first quarter, as she opened the game up with a three-pointer and shot 100 percent from the field, tallying 16 points.
With only one lead change early first quarter, the Lions took the lead back and maintained it the rest of the game. Alford gave the team its first double-digit lead second quarter after she hit a three-pointer, LMU kept that momentum, closing out the half 38-30.
Up eight starting the third quarter, the Lions came out dominating Pacific, as the team took the biggest lead of the game and ended the quarter at 52-38.
The Tigers put up a fight against the Lions fourth quarter, but LMU still maintained the lead. Late in the quarter, Alford tallied her 20
threbound, contributing to the teams' total 48, while Pacific had 39.
The Lions will continue their road trip and head to Moraga to take on Saint Mary's (11-7, 4-3) on Saturday at the McKeon Pavilion at 2 p.m.
