MORAGA, Calif., -- The Loyola Marymount women's basketball team went 1-1 on the road this week, as the team lost against Saint Mary's, 86-62 at McKeon Pavilion in Moraga, Calif.
Bree Alford lead the Lions (11-10, 4-5) from the start, as she put LMU on the board with a three-pointer, and then gave the Lions their only lead of the game early first quarter. Alford almost ended the half with a double-double, as she had 10 points and nine rebounds. The team ended the half down 43-18 against the Gaels (13-7, 6-3).
Jasmine Jones came out strong in the second half, putting points on the board right away, but the Lions weren't able to take the lead back. Despite the loss, the Lions proved to be much stronger at the line, as they shot 61 percent, compared to Saint Mary's 50 percent. The Lions also led in offensive rebounds, 15-13.
Andee Velasco led the team in points with 15, while Alford and
Jasmine Jones had 14 a piece. Along with Alford's 14 points, she also ended the game with 14 rebounds, giving her third double-double over the last four games.
The Lions will be back home next week to host BYU (17-3, 9-0) on Thursday at 5 p.m. in Gersten Pavilion.
