LOS ANGELES – The LMU men's soccer team (1-4) suffered a 3-1 loss to LIU Brooklyn (2-3-1) at home on Sunday evening.

The Blackbirds went up 2-0 in the first half, with their first two goals coming in an eight-minute stretch with the first at 23:30 and the second at 29:18. Romario Guscott scored the first goal on a deflected shot by Fredrik Mathisen, and Rasmus Hansen netted the second on the pass from Filip Nordstrom. LIU Brooklyn struck again at the 56:40 mark as Daniel Quiros put one in on the double assist from Guscott and Mathisen.

Jack Sauls put in the first goal of his collegiate career from a perfectly placed pass by junior
Antonio Porreco on a free kick. Neither team scored in the remaining seven minutes and the Blackbirds ran away with the 3-1 victory.

LMU finished with 23 shots compared to LIU's 10 and the Lions had eight corner kicks to the Blackbirds' two. In his first game of the season, freshman goalkeeper
Mitchell Wilson finished with one save on four shots on goal in a full 90 minutes in the loss. Blackbirds' keeper Cole Palmer played 67:24 of the contest before leaving the game due to injury. He tallied seven saves. Sam Ilin replaced Palmer and had three saves in the win.

Following today's game, LMU travels to Grand Canyon for its next match on Thursday, Sept. 13. The Lions return home next Sunday to square off against Seattle University.
