LOS ANGELES – Following a scoreless first half, #24 Texas Tech scored twice to top Loyola Marymount (2-6-2) on Sunday at Sullivan Field. The Red Raiders (8-1) scored in the 54
thminute, then added one late to defeat LMU.
"We're playing against top-25 teams, and the hard part about that is that we are in the games for 45 minutes, then you come out and whether it is they have more depth or it is hot and we're tired, you have to put together a full game," said Head Coach
Michelle Myers. "We have one more game left of non-conference and hopefully all of these tough games out of conference have prepared us and we can put those lessons to work."
The Lions held Texas Tech out of the back of the net in the opening half, despite being outshot 7-1.
Charlee Pruitt made two of her three saves in the first half.
It was a corner kick that set up the game's first goal. On Texas Tech's fourth corner of the game, Brooke Denesik crossed the ball to the near post and found teammate Jordan Duke's head for the finish.
With LMU applying late pressure, much like they did against #8 UCLA on Thursday night, four of LMU's five shots came after intermission.
Kirsten Davis was able to add a late goal to push the visitor's lead to 2-0 as the Lions were pushing forward.
Sarina Bolden led the way for the Lions with two shots.
One final non-conference game remains on LMU's schedule before West Coast Conference action begins. LMU travels to Long Beach State Saturday evening for a 7 p.m. start.
