LOS ANGELES – The nation's eighth-ranked team and 24
th-ranked team head to The Bluff this week for a tough homestand on the women's soccer schedule. Loyola Marymount returns from a week in Illinois to host #8 UCLA (3-1-1) on Thursday night at 7 p.m. and close out the weekend hosting #24 Texas Tech (6-1-0) Sunday at 1 p.m.
"We have our moments where we have done well and put teams under pressure, and even fought back at times, but I don't think we've seen the full 90 minutes of us competing at the highest that we can," said Head Coach
Michelle Myers. "We are still trying to find our right lineup as well. With some bodies being out, we are moving people around to see what will be best. It's just hard because we are in games against some very, very good opponents, but we just can't find that little extra to put us over the top."
Seven of the eight games LMU has played in this season have been decided by one goal or ended in a draw.
UCLA comes to town with after playing three ranked teams on the road before shutting out Pepperdine 3-0 at home. The Lions have one career draw in 14 games played against the Bruins dating back to 1993. The Sept. 7, 2012 game ended in a 1-1 tie when UCLA was the top-ranked team in the nation.
"I think it is huge anytime you have a big crowd here," said Myers. "I think the crowd will be a little of both teams with how local UCLA is. More than anything those fans just want to see a good soccer game, and that's what we plan on giving them. When we played the Indiana game, all the fans after the game commented that it was a super exciting game, and more than anything we want to feed off that energy under the lights."
In this SoCal Showdown,
Fans in attendance will receive thundersticksto bring the noise to join both The Cage Night and LMU Housing Night. Kids eighth grade and younger will be eligible for a discounted ticket to celebrate Soccer on a School Night. Students will also receive free tacos while supplies last.
The top-25 action continues on Sunday as the
Texas Tech women's soccer team comes to Sullivan Field, part of a double-header with
men's soccer who is hosting Seattle immediately following. Tickets to either game will count towards both. As part of Salute to Service, active duty and retired members of our Armed Forces are eligible to receive one (1) complimentary ticket and up to (4) discounted tickets.
The Red Raiders and Lions have only met once in their program histories. On Sept. 16, 2016, the two teams tied 1-1 with Texas Tech holding an identical #24 ranking at the time. Texas Tech has outscored opponents 16-3 this season and have four shutout wins.
Both games will feature live stats and live streaming. Tickets are still available for single matches or for the remainder of the season.
