LMU Sweeps Utah State

The Lions improved to 4-1 with the win over Utah State.

Playing its second match of the day from the Utah State Invitational on Friday night, LMU volleyball (4-1) swept past host Utah State (1-4) by scores of 25-22, 26-24, 25-21 to move to 1-1 at the tournament.

SLATTERY LEADS THE WAY
Junior Savannah Slattery led the attack on Friday night, delivering a match-best 18 kills on 31 swings to finish with a .387 hitting percentage … the native of Malibu, Calif. also turned in six digs and three block assists, helping LMU to nine team blocks … Slattery totaled six kills in each of the three sets on Friday … with another solid match under her belt, Slattery now has amassed 77 kills (4.05 per set) while hitting .355 this year.

BOX SCORE NOTES
Junior setter Tess Reid dished out a strong 41 assists in the three sets, setting the attack to a .284 team hitting percentage … Reid also collected three kills of her own while serving up one ace … Sara Kovac finished the match with 12 kills, but managed seven of the kills in the second set alone … the Lions hit better than .300 in the first and third sets, finishing at .355 and .312, respectively … LMU served up six aces, led by Alexis Morrow with a pair … three LMU players totaled three block assists, including Morrow with the three plus a block solo … Bailey Downing was the lone Utah State player to reach double-digit kills, registering 10 … the Lions held Utah State to just .155 hitting, with the high-water mark coming in the third at .269 … LMU never trailed in the first or third set, but did play a back-and-forth second that featured 17 tie scores and six lead changes.

LION NOTES
LMU's 4-1 record to start the season is the best since beginning the 2014 campaign 12-0.
