Finishing play at the Utah State Invitational on Saturday, LMU volleyball (5-1) posted a 25-14, 28-26, 25-17 victory over UTRGV (4-3) to finish the tournament at 2-1.

LION ATTACK CLICKING IN FINALE
LMU's attack proved strong in the match against UTRGV, as the Lions hit a season-best .375 while committing just 17 errors on 104 swings … Bo Culo led the way on the attack, posting 12 kills on 21 swings with just three errors to manage a .429 hitting percentage … Emma Johnson hit .600 in the match, collecting 11 kills on 15 chances … Sara Kovac and Savannah Slattery also finished with double-digit kills, registering 11 and 10, respectively … Tess Reid set the attack to the stellar percentage, dishing out 44 assists.

BOX SCORE NOTES
LMU totaled seven team blocks, including five block assists from Meredith Teague … the Lions hit .400 or better in the first and third set, including posting a .464 clip in the lopsided opening set … senior Kekai Whitford led all players with 11 digs … no UTRGV player finished with double-digit kills, as LMU held the opposition to a .157 hitting percentage.

LMU's 5-1 record to start the season is the best since beginning the 2014 campaign 12-0.

ALL-TOURNAMENT HONORS
At the conclusion of play, Reid and Whitford were named to the All-Tournament team … Reid finished the three matches having dished out 151 assists at a rate of 13.73 per set … Reid served up three aces and managed 24 digs to accompany three block assists … with Reid setting the attack, LMU finished the three matches with a .293 team hitting percentage … Reid managed one double-double, pairing a match-best 66 assists with 14 digs against #24 Cal Poly to open the tournament … Whitford, LMU's libero throughout the tournament, posted 49 digs at a rate of 4.45 per set … the native of Costa Mesa, Calif. also served up three aces.
