IRVINE, Calif. – Loyola Marymount showed their determination by erasing an early deficit in the 83
rdminute with an equalizer off the foot of
Jalyn Lupo. UC Irvine (1-2-1) showed immediate response and scored the game-winner minutes later to defeat the Lions (2-2-1), 2-1.
LMU earned back-to-back corners after the clock struck 82 minutes, to give themselves a chance at equalizing the game. With the majority of Lions in the box,
Sarina Bolden, played in a cross that Lupo put away to put LMU on the board and even the score at one-apiece.
UCI was quick to respond, adding a game-winner in the 86
thminute to untie the game and claim the win.
The Anteaters opened the scoring with a 34
thminute header, part of the six first half shots for UCI, compared to just one for the Lions. Irvine took five corner kicks in the half, with LMU tallying two.
LMU's best look in the opening 45 minutes came off one of
Maki Kono's two corners, which resulted in
Shelby Cormier redirecting the ball into the box and having it deflect off the keeper and post before being cleared.
Each team finished with six corner kicks.
