89th Minute Goal Clinches LMU 2-0 Weekend

Lions Score Late to Avoid Overtime, Win Game

LOS ANGELES – With the final minute approaching, Loyola Marymount grabbed victory and avoided overtime with a game-winning goal by senior Sarina Bolden. The Lions (2-1-1) earned their second of two victories on the weekend after defeating Northeastern (1-3-0), 2-1, on Sunday.

"It's huge," said Head Coach Michelle Myers. "The two wins are absolutely a huge relief for us. This gives us a little bit of breathing room, and some confidence, going into another tough weekend. It shows we can continue to battle and beat tough teams."

LMU opened the scoring with a Samantha Jordan goal in the sixth minute off a deflection in the box. Maki Kono played the ball in and after hitting a defender, Jordan was ready for the one-time score for her first-career goal as a Lion.

The score line remained, 1-0, through the remainder of the first half, but it was Hannah Rosenblatt's equalizer 42 seconds into the second half that tied the score for the Huskies.

"Once again we get an early goal and then we give up a goal," said Myers. "We put ourselves in a position where we had to fight back and find that winning goal. I thought we had a lot of good chances and for the most part had good control of the game, but again, we gave up that goal and now we're fighting to get back into things."

With play opening up, LMU's final shot of their seven second half attempts came seconds before the one-minute warning. The ball was pushed up the sideline by Emma Tyrnauer into open space for Sarina Bolden to gather, get composed, and convert to once again bring the Lions away from an impending overtime to victory.

"I did not want to get into overtime, that was the whole thing that was driving me," said Bolden. "It all came together playing as a team, and finish the game with a win."

LMU will now play their first true road game of the season on Friday, at UC Irvine. The game is scheduled to kick at 3:30 p.m., an earlier time to the original schedule due to the Anteaters men's team following.

The new month will open back at Sullivan field as the Lions host Indiana on Sept. 2 at 1 p.m. Mini-cowbells will be given to the first 100 fans in attendance, and as a part of "Camper Reunion" all LMU summer campers will receive one (1) free ticket to the game and up to four (4) discounted tickets for friends and family. All campers will be invited to participate in on-field experiences before the game.
