Game #7 - Santa Clara Advances To Face Chapman

Santa Clara 7, Sonoma State 4

Los Angeles, CA (April 24) - Santa Clara University earned a 7-4 win over Sonoma State in the consolation bracket of the 2004 Western Water Polo Association Championships on Saturday morning at Loyola Marymount University.

Santa Clara improves to 18-16 on the year and will play No. 8 Chapman at 3:00 p.m. The Broncos were led by Catherine Flynn with three goals. Sonoma State falls to 8-19 on the year and will play in the ninth place game on Sunday at 9 a.m. They were led by Amanda Haddock with three goals.

Santa Clara goalie Anne Ginotti made the lead stick as she made a key save on another penalty shot by Sonoma State with 4:02 left in the game that would have cut the Bronco lead to one. Ginottie finished with six saves.

Sonoma State would cut the lead on another penalty shot goal by Shelly Grout with 2:49 remaining. The Broncos would answer on the next offensive possession on a goal by Kathleen Hamm. She would add another with 1:08 to secure the win.
