San Marino, Italy - The Loyola Marymount University men's soccer team defeated AS Rimini 7-1 this evening in San Marino. This victory comes one day after a disappointing 2-0 loss to GS San Paolo on Tuesday.

Junior Armando Melendez scored a goal and had four assists as the Lions dominated AS Rimini today. Freshman Diego Berrera got the Lions on track in the first minute of the game, scoring off an assist from Michael Brewer and Tyler Mehl. The score was tied in the 15th minute after an own goal, but Melendez put the Lions on top for good, converting a penalty kick in the 32nd minute. Aneesh Rana drew the penalty in the box to set up Melendez's goal. The two teamed up again two minutes later, as Rana scored off of a Melendez corner kick to put the Lions up 3-1 going into halftime.

The scoring barrage continued in the second half. Rana scored his second goal of the game in the 48th minute off an assist from Melendez and Diego Souza. Melendez and Brian Vestal fed Jimmy Burling to give the Lions a 5-1 lead, and Melendez picked up his fourth assist of the game off of a goal by Ashy Kaviani in the 60th minute. Joe Stoakley finished off the scoring for LMU off an assist from Berrera in the 75th minute.

Although the Lions dominated play on Tuesday, outshooting their opponents 20-2, they came out on the wrong side of a 2-0 score. GS San Paulo scored its first goal in the tenth minute, and converted a penalty kick after a phantom call in the 20th minute.

LMU has had a busy few days in Italy. After arriving in Milan on Monday, the Lions visited Leonardo da Vinci's the Last Supper on Tuesday, and spent time at the Adriatic Riviera on Wednesday morning. The team will play its last game on Thursday afternoon against San Marino. They return home on Sunday, August 29.
