LOS ANGELES â€" In the opening game of LMU's 2018 softball tournament, the Lions (10-11-1) defeated the Providence College Friars 4-1. Linnay Wilson earned the win on the mound for LMU after throwing 12 strikeouts in a complete game. She moves to 4-4 on the season with the win.

LMU scored its first two runs in the third inning of Game 1, as Lindsey Matoi singled up the middle, driving home Maddison Flores and Sabrina Tebou.

Tebou hit a walkoff homer in the bottom of the fifth to give the Lions a 3-0 lead before the Friars first got on the board in the top of the sixth with a homerun of their own from Crista San Antonio.

Delanie Wisz scored on a Katie Manley ground-out in the bottom of the sixth and the Lions were able to hold on to a 4-1 victory.

LMU wasn't able to get on the board in Game 2, as they were dealt a 5-0 loss from the Eagles of Florida Gulf Coast. FGCU got out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first, first from a double to left center by Bri Bennett to bring Racquel Fournet home and second on a single to left field by Brooke Clemens, bringing Bennett home. The Eagles poured in two more runs in the fourth. Ashley Swiderski hit a triple that scored Brittany McGuire and then Swiderski score on a fly-out to left field by Farley Callaghan and FGCU led 4-0.

The Eagles scored their final run of the game when Bennett singled up the middle and Kate Kelly scored in the top of the seventh, which resulted in the 5-0 final score.

Hannah Bandimere pitched the first four innings for the Lions and Maddie Rawl finished out the final three.

In the final tournament game of the day between FGCU and Providence, the Eagles earned a 3-2 comeback victory over the Friars.

The Lions return to the field tomorrow to take on Harvard at 3:30 p.m. Providence and FGCU begin Day 2 of the tournament with an 8 a.m. start, followed by FGCU and Southern Utah at 10:30 a.m. and Southern Utah and Harvard at 1 p.m.
