LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The 2018-19 Loyola Marymount University men's basketball team has matched their 11 wins from last season in just 12 games this year. On Saturday, the Lions (11-1) play at UC Riverside (4-8) at 2 p.m.
On Wednesday, the Lions won their second game of the season on the final possession of the game. After falling behind by a point with less than seven seconds showing on the clock, James Batemon took the inbounds pass the length of the court to hit the game-winning layup.
The Lions benefited from 7-0 run over the final 49 seconds to defeat Central Connecticut State, 76-74, on Nov. 21. In that game, Zafir Williams buried a pair of free throws in the final second to complete the comeback and give LMU the win.
For UC Riverside, the Highlanders are coming off a 37-point win and have won two of their last three including two straight home games at SRC Arena.
LMU continues to be a top-10 defensive team nationally, allowing opponents to score 59.2 points per game this season. A major reason is the lockdown on three-point shooting. The Lions rank fifth in the NCAA allowing opponents to shoot at a 25.5 percent mark from long range this season.
The Highlanders lead the Big West with 270 total three-point attempts.
The game will stream live on BigWest.tv. The game will tip at 2:00 p.m., an update from the originally scheduled time to accommodate for holiday travel.
