Full Court Shot Highlights Special Night in Portland

PORTLAND, Ore. – For the first time in program history, the Loyola Marymount men's basketball has won 10 of 11 games to open a season. The Lions (10-1) knocked off Portland State (5-5), 85-58, in Saturday's road test.
 
The highlight of the game was Dameane Douglas' full-court shot from the opposite charge/block arc in the final fractions of the last second of the half to push the lead to 43-25 at intermission. LMU led by as much as 18 points in the first half.
 
LMU continued to add to their lead in the second half, increasing the total to as high as 31 before time expired.
 
Joe Quintana grabbed a steal on the opening defensive possession, leading to a Mattias Markusson layup for the game's first points. The Lions jumped ahead 8-2 and 21-11. Quintana totaled four first half steals and finished with a career-high 16 points in the game.
 
James Batemon led all scorers with his 26 points on 7-for-15 shooting.
 
Eli Scott had his best game of the season with 14 points and eight rebounds in his fourth game back. Markusson led all rebounders with 12 boards.
 
LMU hands PSU their first loss in the newly renovated Viking Pavilion. Portland State entered the game 4-0 at home. PSU shot 21.1 percent (4-for-19) from three in the game, improving on LMU's national top-5 ranking in that category.
 
The Lions have a quick turnaround now with Boise State coming to Gersten Pavilion on Wednesday for the annual community day game. The 7 p.m. tipoff will feature $1 general admission tickets and $1 hot dogs.
