LMU men's tennis will send
Lucas Moreno and
Ryan Brown to the 2018 Easley Memorial Championships this week. The three-day event will be hosted by UNLV at the Fertitta Tennis Complex in Las Vegas, Nev.
Players from UNLV, UCLA, SMU, Arizona State and Mesa Community College are also scheduled to participate in the tournament, which begins at 9 a.m. on Friday. Tournament play is made up of one flight each of singles and doubles with consolation play in both. Admission is free of charge.
"As we start to wind down the fall season, we are still very much looking for guys to get some quality tournament play in," head coach
Tom Lloyd said. "This tournament is another great opportunity for Lucas and Ryan to get after it and compete. We are excited to for the opportunity, and will make the best out of it."
After a first-round bye, Moreno will begin play on Friday at 1 p.m. with a match against the winner of UNLV's Olle Thestrup and UCLA's Bryce Pereira. Brown will open against UNLV's Zach Garner at 10 a.m. on Friday. The two Lions will also play doubles, with the pair beginning the tournament at 9 a.m. on Friday vs. Bellamy/Rapp (UCLA).
The annual event was renamed in 2010 in honor of UNLV Hall of Famer Larry Easley, who passed away from illness in 2005 at the age of 57. Easley coached the UNLV men's tennis team longer than anyone in history and produced sometimes-spectacular results over his dozen seasons from 1993-2002, including producing five All-Americans and two NCAA individual champions.
