LOS ANGELES – Loyola Marymount men's water polo finishes with a perfect 6-0 mark at Burns Aquatic Center following a 12-8 win over #13 Princeton. This is the first time that the Lions went undefeated at home since the 1999 season.
Princeton opening the scoring in the first quarter, but
Blazo Mitrovic answered with an equalizing goal on the next possession. Senior
Eric Reitmeir gave LMU their first lead of the day with his goal 5:31 into the first quarter. Mitrovic then extended the lead to 3-1, to push the lead to two after one.
Reitmeir opened the fourth quarter with his second of the day, just 1:40 into the period. Mitrovic capitalized on a powerplay after receiving an assist from senior
Daniel Arellano to push it to a 5-1 game. Princeton got one back, but the Lions held their 5-2 lead going into the half.
Senior
Dayne Jagga opened the second half with his first goal of the day, before the Tigers got it back less than a minute later with a goal of their own. Mitrovic then ended the third with two of the final three goals of the period to push LMU's lead to 8-4 with a quarter to play.
The Lions extended their lead in the fourth, sparked by
Alexandros Athymaritis' goal on LMU's opening possession following a Mitrovic steal. After Princeton scored on the ensuing possession, LMU answered with another Athymaritis goal. Mitrovic pushed the lead to 11-5 with his goal at the 5:57 mark, forcing a Princeton timeout. LMU added a final goal as Arellano converted a 5-Meter penalty shot. Princeton closed out with the final three goals of the day, but the game was already decided.
Robert Halligan started the game and made seven saves and recorded four steals.
Zach Zemliak closed out the game, making one save.
Following their final home game of the year, LMU honored the five-member senior class.

The Lions now return to conference play with two key conference games scheduled for the upcoming play. LMU plays at WWPA-leaders UC Davis Thursday at 6 p.m. The Aggies are 5-0 and if the 4-1 Lions can earn a win it sets up the potential for a co-championship. The final conference game will follow on Saturday at noon at Santa Clara.
