LOS ANGELES – It was a tight game that was full of emotion between the LMU Lions (5-10, 2-2 WCC) and Pacific Tigers (9-3-2, 3-1 WCC) on Friday night at Sullivan Field, resulting in a 1-0 victory for Pacific.
Â
Backup goalkeeper
Mitchell Wilson was the star of the night for the Lions, coming up with two clutch saves on penalty kicks in the second half. The freshman replaced
Paul Lewis, who started in goal for LMU, after Lewis was given a red card for an illegal tackle in the box and ejected.
Â
Wilson finished the night with five saves and zero goals allowed in 22 minutes of action.
Â
LMU was in control for a bulk of the match and outshot Pacific 16-9 on the night. Four of LMU's 16 shots were on goal, while eight of nine shots were on target for the Tigers. LMU took six corner kicks to Pacific's one. Â
Â
The Tigers' lone goal came at the 59:42 mark when Camden Riley punched in his seventh goal of the season, landing it in the back-left corner of the net off the cross from teammate Jonathan Jimenez.
Â
Wilson received a yellow card for another tackle in the box at 88:38, and with major confusion occurring both on the field and sidelines with the call, Lions head coach
Paul Krumpe received a red card and was ejected from the match.
Â
Along with Wilson, five other Lions received yellow cards in the game, including
Nick Dauchot,
Will Dubay,
Matthew Gooden,
Gerardo Lopez and
Jack Sauls. Two Pacific players were also given yellow cards on the night: Goalkeeper Mateo Gomez and Jimenez.
