Los Angeles, Calif. - LMU finished WCC opening weekend against BYU, playing the final two games of the series today. In game one, LMU was held to three hits in the 5-1 decision, and the nightcap saw LMU fall 2-0 in what was a pitcher's duel most of the game. The Lions fall to a 14-25 record and 0-3 in conference.
In game one against the Cougars, Irma Sanchez started with a leadoff double over the left fielder's head. She would be sacrificed over by Caitlin Harman and a walk to Amanda Dirks would put runner at the corners for Alicia Brown. Brown singled to center scoring the first run of the day and what proved to be the only Lion to cross the plate in the two games. Brown would pick up her second hit of the day in the 3rd inning on a single up the middle.
Game two was a pitcher's duel for much of the game, Rachael Farrington struck out eight Cougars, allowed only 6 hits and 2 runs through 7 innings of work. LMU recorded 7 hits off BYU, two of which came from Lindsey Matoi, she finished the game 2-for-3. Brown's third and final hit of the day came in the 6th when the Lions tried to string a late game rally together. Brown earned a 1-out single through the left side followed quickly by a single from Alex Finie, LMU couldn't capitalize on the baserunners and would drop the game 2-0.
LMU is on the road at Santa Clara for the next WCC match up. With the Easter holiday on Sunday the games will be played Friday, April 14th at 2pm and 4pm and Saturday, April 15th at 12pm.
