Los Angeles, Calif. - In game one LMU outlasted Dartmouth 8-0 in 5 innings. LMU got off to a slow start, their first run came in the 2nd when Aria Pogni hit a towering solo shot over the center field wall, but they wouldn't score again until the 4th. Once they got the bats going nothing could stop them, not even a rain delay.
In the 4th Alicia Brown led off with a walk, followed by a bunt hit by Alex Finie. Pogni picked up her second hit of the game scoring Brown to make it a 2-0 game. Mackenzie Kutzke and Sabrina Tebou each followed up with an RBI single. A bases clearly double by Irma Sanchez, and one final RBI single by Amanda Dirks in the 4th got the Lions out to a 7-0 lead. LMU would score the game winning run when Caitlin Harman hit a sac fly to right scoring Taylor Lockwood in the 5th. Pogni finished the game 2-for-2 with two runs scored and an RBI.
In the nightcap LMU put up 19 runs on 13 hits in the 19-2 victory. LMU jumped out of the gates scoring two runs in the 1st, four runs in the 2nd, and four runs in the 3rd before exploding for 9 runs in the 4th. Five Lions had extra base hits including four doubles by Tebou, Harman, Katie Manley and Lindsey Matoi. Brooke Christensen had the lone homerun on the game, basting a 2-run shot over the left field wall in the 4th.
Four Lions had an overall impressive day, Sanchez was 3-for-4 on the day with 3 RBIs and a double. Kutzke hit 2-for-3 with 3 runs scored and an RBI. Harman hit 2 doubles with 2 RBIs enroot to her 3-for-5 day. Dirks had a team high 5 RBIs and hit 4-for-6 over the two games.
LMU is back on Smith Field Thursday for the first of three games against Cal State Fullerton.
