SAN FRANCISCO - Trailing by 11 in both halves, LMU men's basketball managed to reel in yet another opponent. However, they could not overcome shooting woes in a 74-64 setback at the Sobrato Center in San Francisco on Saturday night in West Coast Conference action.
In a game that was hectic from the beginning - it featured 36 turnovers (18 by both teams), 38 fouls (20 by USF) and 19 missed free throws - the Lions seemed to never get into the rhythm they got into Thursday in the 19-point win over USD. The missed free throws once again hurt the Lions as they managed to get 20 trips to the charity stripe but hit just eight (40 percent). The Lions also struggled from the field, hitting just 38 percent on the night while USF hit 50.9 percent.
Buay Tuach was the only Lion (11-12, 4-8) in double figures with 16 points while Stefan Jovanovic had eight points, 13 rebounds and three blocks. The rebounding total equaled a career-high and set a single-game high for the Lions on the season.
Boyce led USF (17-8, 7-5) with 16 points. McCarthy added 12 points and 10 rebounds.
The Dons jumped out to a quick 19-9 lead and led by 11, 33-22, with 4:48 to play in the first half. LMU cut into the lead going into the locker room, trailing 40-33. They continued to cut into the lead to start the second half, making it a two-point game, 43-41, on a Tuach lay-up just four minutes in.
USF responded to stretch the lead to 11 again, 54-43 on a Chase Foster free throw with 12:39 on the clock. The Lions once again slowly chipped away, as Jovanovic hit a lay-up to cut the lead to 59-57 with 5:53 to play. From there, the Lions went cold. They went more than five minutes without field goal as the Dons held on for the win.

LMU had 10 more field goal attempts than USF, going 25-for-65 from the field. USF was 28-for-55. Both teams hit six three-pointers, LMU hitting 6-for-20 (30 percent) while USF was 6-for-18 (33.3 percent).
FROM COACH DUNLAP
"Turnovers and missed free throws, same old tune for us," said Head Coach
Mike Dunlap. "We pushed back on them a couple times but had some careless turnovers. That was the game. Missed free throws and bad turnovers."
"No complaints about our physical effort, none at all. We pushed back at them multiple times. We do a good job of reeling in our opponents and pushing back. But we got careless with the ball and had costly turnovers when we had a chance to get over the hump."
