SAN BRUNO - Seniors Brandon Brown and Buay Tuach have been named to to the 2016-17 Men's Basketball All-West Coast Conference team. The senior duo earned second-team and honorable mention honors, respectively, in the annual postseason awards as voted on by the league's 10 coaches.
Both have done a little of everything for the Lions on the season.
Brown leads the way at point, sitting is 10th in scoring (13.6 ppg), 6th in assists (4.1 apg), and 3rd in steals per game (1.4). He is coming off his seventh 20-point game of the season after going for 24 points, hitting 4-for-8 from three and a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line. With that shooting performance, he is now ranked 5th in the WCC in three-point shooting (41.8 percent), 12th in free throw shooting (73.4 percent), 12th in three-pointers made per game (1.8), and 6th in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.8).
As for Tuach, his senior season could be considered one of the most-improved campaigns by any player in the WCC. A year ago, he had 96 points while hitting 34.8 percent from the field (32-for-92) and 32.7 percent from three (17-for-52). This season, he has taken off.
This season he is averaging 11.4 points per game, scoring 318 total points while hitting 50.2 percent from the field (115-of-229) and 40.8 percent from three (42-of-103). Within the WCC, he ranks 20th in scoring, 11th in shooting, 10th in three-point shooting, and 4th in steals (1.4 spg).
This is the second straight season earning a postseason honor for Brown, who was honorable mention a year ago. The duo leads the Lions into the 2017 WCC Championships in Las Vegas. The Lions, who earned the No. 6 seed, will face third-seeded BYU on Saturday at 1 pm. The men's and women's winners of the 2017 West Coast Conference Basketball Championships will each receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
