LOS ANGELES - LMU women's water polo recognized five seniors playing in their final home game on Saturday at the Burns Aquatics Center. The 20th-ranked Lions would fall to 25th-ranked CSUN, 9-7.
The Lions honored seniors Bridgette Alvarez, Erin Byrne, Ivana Castro, Kingsley Hill and Ashtynn Nelson. This Fab Five has their names throughout the LMU record book as well as continuing the Lions' tradition of excellence, winning the first two Golden Coast Conference Championships.
Hill had a goal and two assists while Castro had a goal and two assists. Nelson had a goal and two steals and Alvarez had a steal and four drawn exclusions. Byrne had a goal and two drawn exclusions.
It was the 6-on-5 that once again struggled, as the Lions (11-19) drew 12 of them but scored on just four. CSUN (11-19) was 2-for-3 and also scored on a five-meter.
Freshman Hana Vilanova had two goals and three steals while fellow freshman Sky Flores had 10 saves to lead the Lions. Madeleine Sanchez had three goals, an assist and a steal to lead CSUN.
The Lions head to the 2016 Golden Coast Conference Championships starting Friday, April 29. They are the No. 4 seed and will face fifth-seeded Santa Clara at 3 pm.
