SAN DIEGO - San Diego's Megan Sabbatini held the LMU softball team to just four hits for the second time in three games as the Lions fell, 6-2, in the West Coast Conference series finale Sunday at the USD Softball Complex.
The Toreros (16-25, 2-4 WCC) used a big five-run first inning to jump out to a commanding lead and the Lions (25-19, 3-2 WCC) could never get their bats going to recover.
Stephanie Crist had a solo home run in the fourth and Alicia Brown added an RBI-double in the sixth, but that would be al the Lions could get.
Hannah Bandimere took the loss in the circle for the Lions, giving up one walk and three hits for five earned runs. Rachael Farrington came on in relief, pitching effectively for the final 5.1 innings, but the damage was already done.
LMU returns home to Smith Field next week, hosting Santa Clara in a three-game WCC set on Friday, April 23 and Saturday, April 24. First pitch for Friday's doubleheader is scheduled for noon.
