LMU's singles game proved to be the difference on Monday afternoon, as the Lions (6-6) won four singles matches to defeat #58 Utah State (14-6) by a score of 4-3 from the USU Outdoor Courts.

LMU dropped the doubles point to start the match, but Joat Farah and Errol Smith proved to be a winning combination at court one, defeating Luis Lopez/Romai Ugarte, 6-4.

A victory from Jaime Barajas over Charles Boyce on court one allowed Utah State to extend the lead to 2-0, but Cristobal Rivera got the Lions on the board shortly thereafter, defeating Jonas Maier, 6-3, 6-1, on court two to cut the deficit to a point.

Luke Bohuslav, playing at #5 singles, evened the tally with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Samuel Serrano before Farah dispatched Lopez, 6-4, 6-3 on court four to give LMU the lead at 3-2.

Needing just one more decision to claim victory, LMU received the point from freshman Lukas Moenter on court six. The German-born player finished off a hard-fought 7-5, 7-5 victory over Ugarte, handing LMU the team win.

Errol Smith, competing on court three, finished his match with the team decision already finalized, falling in a three-set match to Jack Swindells, 6-2, 6-7 (1), 6-4.

LMU will now return to Southern California when it meets UC Santa Barbara at the Mulholland Tennis Club on March 25 at 3 p.m.
